This mock-up is a general flow chart of how my speech should read. This speech is from the voice of the President of our University, Mark Schlissel, as an address to the Undergraduate student body at the Hill auditorium. For inspiration, I looked at other famous speeches like John F. Kennedy’s “We Choose to go to the Moon” speech because it's one of my favorite speeches, and attempts to evoke a large scale social response, just as I would like to.

Though I used the terms Ethos, Pathos, and logos to show the relevant parts of my piece in my table, the terms are not mutually exclusive, and will be used in conjunction with one another throughout the text. For example, in my second section, I begin with "Pathos," however, ethos is still at play because for the entirety of the speech, President Schlissel will have to be received as a credible speaker on the topic.

It’s important to note that this is a very rough draft. But at its core, this speech is about evoking emotion in each individual student on this campus, separate from race, class and gender. Nobody should feel like this conversation doesn’t apply to them, and I need everybody to know that the seeds for a healthy campus enlay in all of us as individuals. There is no larger initiative that can fix this—the problem is deeply cultural and behavioral.
